The collection of this special museum consists of 3 items that are intertwined: family, business and bicycle. It starts with a smithy on the Hoofdstraat in Zuidhorn. In 1963, the 3rd generation of Coos (Jacobus) Birza starts a garage, petrol pump and bicycle shop with bicycle repair. In the 1970s, the family starts the taxi company: taxi Birza (taxi 50500). In 1997, the company celebrates its 100th anniversary. Successively, garaga, taxi company and bicycle repair are divested. The bicycle museum remains. The bicycle runs as a thread through all developments. The genesis of today's bicycle in 100 years is spectacular! During this period, a lot of experimentation took place and many special bicycles were created and tried out, which can be seen in the collection. Various brands also pass in review. Such as Gazelle, Union but also old Groningen brands like Fongers and Veeno. The entire development of the bicycle can be seen in the museum, supplemented by many posters and accessories, such as, dynamos, rear lights, children's seats, saddles, carbide candle and kerosene lamps as well as steering head and tax plates.
