On 15 July 1999, the SNS Fund Eemsmond Foundation was established with, among other things, the aim of promoting the history and culture of Appingedam. The board also decided to build a collection of antique silver objects from Appingedam and the surrounding area. Through intermediaries, more than 400 objects from various private properties were acquired in recent years; however, only Appingedam silver proved to be unfeasible.
