Ezumazijl, the sluice Oude Syl, with the Old Bridge from 1901 There has been a sluice at this spot, in the mouth of the Zuider Ee, ever since the Lauwerszee coast was diked in the 11th century. A new lock was built in 1671. Repaired again after the Christmas flood of 1717 and not renewed again until 1931. The lock complex, the DongerDielen pumping station, Poldermolen de Gans windmill and the mound on which the village is built are listed as national monuments.
