Historie

In 1930, Usquert's town hall was officially inaugurated.

It then served as the town hall for sixty years. In 1990, the town hall became redundant when Usquert merged into a new municipality. In order to preserve it for the future, it passed into the hands of the Hendrick de Keyser Association, which had it thoroughly restored to its former glory in 2011. The former Usquert town hall is an architectural monument designed by a famous master builder/architect from Amsterdam. The town hall named after him is one of two executed designs by his hand in the province of Groningen and the only town hall Berlage ever built.

The Usquert town hall forms a unity between exterior and interior, just like Berlage's other designs. The monumental building with its flat roofs and high tower consists of brick, concrete and iron. Berlage advocated an honest style in which building materials were not hidden. The glazed wall and floor tiles, stained-glass windows and skylight harmonise with the building's exterior.
