Historie
__This church in Loppersum is also called the peasant or village cathedral. The substantial, detached gabled tower dates from the 14th century, with walls almost three metres thick. The colourful frescoes on the vaults of the choir and in the chapel the Marian images date from 1500. The organ also dates partly from the 16th century, built by the famous organ builders Hinsz and Freytag. The church and organ have also suffered from earthquake damage. During the last major restoration, the organ was repaired and strengthened. There were fears that the organ might vibrate loose from wall. With pillars going into the ground to a depth of 12 metres, the whole thing was made earthquake-proof.
