Historie

The name of this village indicates its location; ón an old sand ridge of the Fivelboezem. The sea used to be able to reach here. People therefore say they live óp 't Zandt and not ín 't Zandt. When you drive into 't Zandt, you immediately notice: the former main street with its characteristic buildings and houses is no more. The pictures show the atmosphere of the village until before 2012. The village of 't Zandt has been hard hit by numerous earthquakes. This is due to its weak subsoil: a sandbank. More than 1/3 of the houses in the village will have to be demolished and rebuilt Previously, a characteristic building stood next to the centuries-old Maria church at Hoofdstraat 51. The NAM bought it up because it was badly damaged and had it demolished. Six earthquake-resistant houses were built in its place.
