Baflo's Laurentiuskerk is one of the oldest churches in the province of Groningen. There was probably a predecessor of the current church, which was founded by Liudger in the 8th century. Emperor Henry III donated the church to the bishop of Münster. The present church was built in the early 12th century. In 1594, the church lost its position as a proosdij at the reduction of Groningen. A few metres to the southeast of the church stands the unarticulated church tower with gabled roof and trefoil (from around 1,300). This used to house a cachot (cell for prisoners). Only the tower is owned by the Old Groningen Churches Foundation.
