Visitors to the Groninger Zilverkamer will find a collection with many recognisable, but also some almost unknown objects, compiled from a traditional viewpoint and based on the adage "It must be Groningen". After the purchase of the Eemsmond building's own Fund, it was decided to set up a permanent Groninger Silver Room with a special collection of Groningen silver from the 17th to the early 20th century. What is striking is the fact that, especially in the 19th century, numerous silversmiths were active in many Groningen towns and villages. While the rest of the Netherlands was under the spell of silverware from Schoonhoven, the Groningen silversmiths continued with their own production, which fitted in very well with the traditional tastes of the Groninger.
