Theo Onnes (born 1957) is a visual artist. Made famous by his paintings of cows and goats. Lives and works in the village of Uithuizen, where the beautiful empty Groningen landscape is a constant source of inspiration for him. Theo comes from a family of painters. Grandfather Klaas, father Minne and sister Gerda, they all painted. So it was not surprising that Theo eventually chose to study painting at ABK Minerva Groningen, where he graduated in 1999. The Hogeland is an inexhaustible source of inspiration for Theo: light in a ditch, ploughed land, the sun on the back of a goat, the endearment of a newborn calf. Theo is touched precisely by this seemingly mundane life around him. He powerfully translates this in his paintings, making his wonder more than perceptible and even tangible to us.
