LEARN MORE ABOUT
Originally on the site of the museum stood a rented house, For a long time the notary lived here, and then the mayor of Bellingwolde. However, the stately front house of before is no longer there. On 25 June 1943, while pursuing German fighters, an American bomber dropped its bomb load on Bellingwolde, unfortunately just a little too early. These swept away the entire front house killing four people. This number could have been much higher. Fortunately, the bombs fell perpendicular to the buildings and not along the line of the ribbon village. This saved the village from immense disaster.
After rebuilding in the 1950s, the municipal regional museum was started in 1973. After several renovations, the building is in its current expanded form from 2012. Between the stately farmhouses and the many greenery of the Main Road, the museum's modern steel facade immediately catches the eye. The MOW Museum has grown from formerly a regional museum to a leading and quirky museum. With its collections and exhibitions, MOW focuses on 'the countryside', including the many changes now taking place in the countryside, such as energy transition, technologisation, the changes in agriculture.
A visit to the museum is also a cool experience for children. A separate children's route is developed for each exhibition, so that children can enjoy the exhibits at their own level.
