DE KLEINE PLANTAGE is a small-scale nursery with gardens located on Groningen's Hogeland, just outside the village of Eenrum, about 25 kilometres north of the city of Groningen. In 1986, Fleur van Zonneveld and Eric Spruit, started setting up the 1.2 ha site. The nursery and gardens are separated by hedges planted in a straight geometric pattern. The space and openness of the beautiful Groningen countryside and at the same time its enclosure by vegetation around farms, villages and roads are reflected in the design. Lawns and long sightlines with hedges on either side set back around enclosed garden rooms. The garden reflects a search for harmony between straight lines and curves, between order and looseness, between structure and content, between space and seclusion.
