Next to the unique farmhouse from 1771, this capital villa was built in 1881, by the grain farmer Doeke Derks Dijkstra. This was common during the glory years of 'the grain republic'. The land in front of the farm did not offer enough space. Villa Hoogheem therefore arose next to the farm, located on one of the few old house mounds in Oldambt. While the owners moved to Villa Hoogheem, the head servant continued to live on the farm. In front of the villa, the typical Groningen winding garden is still clearly recognisable.
