Historie
West of Marum's church is a striking hump over 2 metres high, topped by a large lime tree. Only a few years ago, function of this many centuries-old small elevation was known. Before then, all sorts of stories circulated among residents about the significance of this elevation, including a prehistoric holy place, a burial mound, a terp or a mill hill. In 2012, archaeological research revealed the true significance of the mound. In 2012, research was carried out by the National Cultural Heritage Agency. It discovered traces of a moat around and in the foreground other buildings of presumably a farm. Conclusion: the hump secures the building remains of what was once a Steenhuis, built in the same period as Marum's church.
