The Peizer Hopbel, the restaurant with a rich history, is located in a monumentally restored Saxon farmhouse from 1770. The atmosphere of the old farmhouse is reflected in the cosily decorated rooms. The village of Peize is also known for its hop culture. Peize and hops have been connected since the 15th century. The brewer Otto ter Hansouwe from Groningen went to live in Peize and started growing hops there. Because the demand for hops was so great, farmers around the village of Peize also started growing hops. Breweries came from far and wide, even from abroad, to buy hops from Peize. The street names Hoppekampweg, Hopruiters, Hoprank and the Restaurant de Peizer Hopbel still remind you of the historical connection.
